Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding can take time to settle. Difficulties do not always mean it is failing. LACE offers practical support for mothers and babies.

We can help with

  • Checking baby's latch
  • Discussing feeding technique
  • Reviewing feeding frequency
  • Weighing baby
  • Concerns about weight gain
  • Cracked or painful nipples
  • General feeding difficulties
  • Questions about milk supply
  • Guidance where milk fever or breast inflammation is suspected

Looking at mother and baby together

Breastfeeding problems are rarely solved by looking at only one part of the feeding process. We consider how baby is feeding, how mother is coping and whether baby's growth supports the overall picture. Sometimes a small adjustment is enough. Other situations may require additional medical care.

When referral is needed

If treatment or more assessment is needed, we will refer you appropriately.

Appointment request

Breastfeeding support is available by appointment. If possible, time the appointment so that baby is likely to feed during the consultation.
